April Markiewicz named outstanding contributor at toxicology organization
April Markiewicz, associate director of the Institute of Environmental Toxicology in Huxley College of the Environment at Western Washington University, has been selected to receive the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry Outstanding Regional Chapter Contribution Award, created in 2007 to honor the many contributions that members make at the Regional Chapter level to SETAC. The award is presented to a regional chapter member who has consistently contributed to the development or functioning of the Society at the Regional Chapter Level, according to the organization.
An aquatic toxicologist by training, Markiewicz earned her B.S. degree in fisheries and wildlife at Michigan State University and her M.S. in aquatic ecology/aquatic toxicology at WWU. She has worked at Western for more than 22 years, and she and attended her first PNW-SETAC meeting as a graduate student in 1992, when the meeting was held on WWU's campus.
The award will be presented on Sunday, Nov. 13, during the SETAC North America 32nd Annual Meeting opening ceremony in Boston.
