Immigration symposium set for Thursday
Immigration is not just about poor people crossing the border in the Southwest. Immigration issues on the Canada-US border relate to drug violence, terrorism, human trafficking and more. These issues and others will be discussed by Margaret Stock and Edward Alden, two experts on immigration and borders, at a symposium titled “Immigration Reform: What’s at Stake for the Northern Border,” from 3-4:30 p.m.on Thursday, Nov. 12 in the Library Presentation Room.
Both Stock and Alden are members of the Council of Foreign Relations (CFR) Independent Task Force on Immigration Reform, which recently released its report. Stock is currently a Visiting Fellow at the Border Policy Research Institute. The symposium, presented by the Border Policy Resarch Institute and the Center for Canadian-American Studies, will be followed by a reception in Canada House starting at 4:30 p.m.
