Western Today staff

Western Washington University delayed its opening by two hours today because of the overnight snow, and officials continue to pay close attention to the weather to determine how the conditions are affecting operations at the university and for travel to and from campus.

The National Weather Service is predicting that snow will  continue to fall around campus through Thursday, with an accumulation of several inches possible. Travel conditions could be aggravated by freezing temperatures, as daily highs are expected to be at or below freezing until Thursday.

To stay abreast of possible closures and delays at WWU, pay attention to these sources:

  • The university website. In the event of a delay or a closure, the WWU website will be updated regularly with the latest information. Also pay attention to the WWU emergency website.
  • The storm line/emergency hotline. The WWU storm line, at (360) 650-6500, is updated each morning on days of questionable weather.
  • Your e-mail and cell phone. If you're a WWU student or employee and you've submitted your cell phone number via Web4U, you'll get a message sent to your cell phone via the Western Alert system when campus is fully or partially closed.
  • The myWestern portal. A notice will be posted on myWestern in the morning apprising students, faculty and staff of the university's plans for the day.

For information on the WWU Student Shuttle, call (360) 650-7960.
