The 16th Annual Employee Arts & Crafts Show officially kicks off today, March 15, with an opening reception from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in Viking Union Room 565. The show will be open to the public beginning at 11 a.m. today.
Western Washington University President Bruce Shepard will make a few comments, and refreshments will be provided.
Center Dwayne Fells scored on a post-up with 0.6 seconds left in overtime, lifting Cal Poly Pomona to a 76-75 victory over Western Washington University in a NCAA Division II Men's Basketball West Regional semifinal game Saturday on Haggen Court at Sam Carver Gymnasium.
Cal Poly Pomona, the defending regional champion, improved to 25-6 with its 17th victory in the last 18 games. The Broncos will face Brigham Young University-Hawaii at 7 p.m. today in a rematch of the 2009 West Region championship game.

The Western Gallery will present "Critical Messages: Northwest Artists on the Environment” from April 12 through May 29.
The work of 26 artists from Washington, Oregon, British Columbia, Idaho, and California will be showcased in this exhibition that has been organized around eight environmental issues facing the Pacific Northwest: growth, waste management, production and consumption, transportation, wilderness and wetland preservation, biodiversity, climate change, and energy.
Commencement activities begin at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, March 20, on the Western Washington University campus in Carver Gymnasium and in the SMATE Building. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. and is followed by Memory Walk, which concludes at approximately noon.
All academic and administrative units are asked to avoid activity that would conflict with commencement.
Western Washington University’s Department of Music will host the Northstar Saxophone Quartet at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9 in the Performing Arts Center Mainstage Theater.
The free performance will feature Scott Granlund, soprano saxophone; WWU Music faculty Nicole Barnes, alto saxophone; Bryan Smith, tenor saxophone; and Jay Easton, baritone saxophone. The evening program will include works by Piazzolla, Lukas, Glass and others. They will also perform a Northwest premiere of "Quartet" by award-winning composer Wes Matthews.

Admission to WWU with highest honors is determined based on outstanding academic history and standardized exam scores. The visiting students are an elite group—their average cumulative high school GPA is 3.98.
Washington State Department of Natural Resources geographer and Western Washington University alumnus Michael Grilliot will speak about rising sea levels in Puget Sound at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, in Communications Facility 125 on the WWU campus.

“I am very excited about this upcoming concert. The program is very different from anything we have ever done at WWU. It uses the Wind Band in two completely different ways,” said Christopher Bianco, conductor of the WWU Wind Symphony.
